Quint privacy
Last updated October 16, 2026
Quint is a desktop app for your Mac, made by Hit the Deck Software. It is designed to need as little from you as possible: there are no accounts, no logins, no advertising and no analytics or tracking built into the app.
What stays on your Mac
Your quintlets, groups, scenes, styles and settings are saved in a file on your Mac. Anything read locally, such as battery, CPU, memory, files you point a quintlet at, or the output of your own commands, stays on your Mac. We do not run servers that receive your data.
What Quint connects to
Quint itself contacts only two things: the update feed, and the public websites that the quintlets you choose to add are built to read. Each such site can see your IP address and normal web request details and has its own privacy policy:
- Snippets that fetch data: for example weather and radar and tides (National Weather Service, NOAA), earthquakes and river levels (USGS), air quality, space and aurora data (NOAA, NASA), government data (Treasury, BLS, FDA, FAA, FEMA, EIA), headlines (the news publishers you pick), sports scores, stocks, planes overhead (a public aircraft feed and a flight database), horoscope and On This Date. A snippet's description says which public site it contacts, and Show the Code shows exactly what it requests. Nothing is contacted until you add that quintlet.
- Your own quintlets: shell commands, AppleScripts, web pages and picture addresses that you write or import can contact anything you point them at. That traffic is yours; Quint does not route it through us.
- Updates: the Sparkle updater checks a signed update feed hosted on GitHub and downloads updates from GitHub, which may use GitHub's content-delivery hosts. GitHub sees your IP address and normal request details. Quint adds no user ID to these requests.
- Address search: if you search for an address or city when setting your location, the text you type is sent through Apple Maps.
- Links you click: release pages, tips and email links open in your browser or mail app, and those sites have their own policies.
Location
Location is optional. You can search for a place, or choose Use My Location, which asks macOS for permission. Your saved place stays on your Mac, is used only to fill in quintlets that need it (local weather, radar, sunrise, tides, planes overhead and the like), and is never included when you share or export quintlets. Only quintlets you add send coordinates to the provider they name.
Sync between your Macs
If you turn on Sync, Quint writes one file into a folder you choose, such as one in iCloud Drive, Google Drive or Dropbox. That file contains your quintlets, including any shell commands, and is handled by the cloud service you picked, under its own policy. Quint has no server of its own for sync. Your saved location is not synced.
Permissions Quint may ask for
- Automation: when an AppleScript quintlet talks to another app, such as Music or Calendar, macOS asks permission for each app the first time.
- Location: only if you choose Use My Location.
- Files and folders: macOS may ask when a quintlet reads a file or folder you chose.
Sharing quintlets
A shared .quintlet file contains only what you chose to share. When you open one, a review screen shows what each quintlet runs and contacts before anything is added, and quintlets that run code start switched off.
Tips and contact
Tips are made through Buy Me a Coffee, which handles payment under its own policy; we receive no payment details. Questions can be sent to info@quintmac.com.
